Like covering up the smell of poo with air freshner.

Oh man yesterday was crazy, the maelstrom of bugs and errors and idiocy for the group project reached its peak.

I had to pick out bugs in everything. Dan renamed an entire layer with an invalid Name somehow which caused some strange MASS rename, which changed alot of attributes, like the IK handle tool to suddenly be called CHARACTERMOVES:RIg_leg_char_SC_Solver etc.. etc.. and i had to try and rename every joint, ik, layer, etc. with s omething maya would accept. but that failed.

then james crane, its like looking at a girl from far away, "Looks good from far, but far from good" so many modeling errors in it to make your head spin. on top of that he brought his lighthouse at 9 PM last night to pu tinto t he scene... little late there james. we didnt even get to use it. having to run around all day to fix t hings caused me to neglect my own part of the project x_x damn it. oh well. Rant over i guess.

ALl in all it could have gone alot smoother, we were strong i the begining, but we got lazy near the end, and james' work just flat out dissapered over the past 2 weeks. and no one knew how to rig! so i had to do all t he rigging and some animations in dan and jame's segment of the project, i was hoping it would be used as a guide..but it wasn't and dan didn't put the extra frames of animation in to complete some of the stuff, and by the time i noticed we had already rendered and everything, so i did my best to cover it up. ok ok.. rant over really now.

(going to cry himself to sleep tonight)

oh my god DAN!

CLEAN UR EFFIN HYPERGRAPH!

I cant find jack shit in this thing! ahhh how am i supposed to find stuff to rig in the scene O_O!!!
the messed hypergraph is causing naming issues.
OMFG HE RENAMED THE RIG ANDNOW MAYA IS TOTALLY FREAKING OUT.

Need A Render farm!

Okay, so after all the work were onto rendering today. oh how fun!

I've been rigging over the past few days and animating James horrible character designs for the scene, so far so good i guess. i forgot to takae screen shots of the paint weighting and animating, also i've been working alot on dans Computer as he runs into trouble On maya. Dan has completed a render of a section of the scene with a nice motion blur to it. UNFORTUNATLY It has some over looks to it. I animated the walk for james Character but i didnt know at the time to how long he runs in the little wheel for in the scene, and so he suddenly stops running prematurely. and dan took 4 hours to render it so we have to re-render that 2-3 seconds of footage near the end of that. Not a huge set back but an annoying one none the less.

On another note I have animated the trees in my short segment at the begining to move a bit, it is a very subtle movement as i wanted toe wind to be weak. Ill post a video of the tree movement after i finish rendering..

OKAY pc is fixed and i am sort of back on track. I started rigging the model done by james of James character. its a horrible character, the rigging is incredibly... difficult because of the characters.. strange.. body. but here is the process of my rig on the character.

weight painting comes to morrow, this char is going to be a pain in the @$$

Rigging James' Character

James has done it again, made a random thing, to put into the animation that we had no plan touse in the f irst place. Since i know the most about rigging im the one who is going ot be rigging it.

Im using what i like to call vertext rigging, selecting the vertexes where the edges of joints will effect, and then flood filling the joint. and then after its all flood filled, im going to smooth it,f or a quick and easy rigging process. I used nurbs circles to be used as handles, basically so you can just grab the circles and move the leg and or head without actually having to painstakingly find the joint in the body and rotate each joint, etc etc. so that way we can keep the animation easy, and smooth.

There is a world Circle, which controls the location of the character as a whole, then there is the head controller, which is parented to the snout and the hair spike thing. each circle controls the area in which i've placed the circle around, And the ci rcles don't show up in render either, so its nice, and convenient. the following are some shots i've done of me rigging and weighting. im going to finish the weighting tonight at home, well if i don't end up cooking and washing a crap load of cloths first, haha......... *(!&"!@

Walk Of Doom

Okay, this walk for this project is harsh, I decided to cut it short and clip to her walking upper body, so that i can skip the steps for the feet. But then i got carried away and began animating the feet anyway, so i guess ill undo all of that. I know i've stated that i don't want to be an animator. But i do pride myself on my capabilities to do so. Heres some more work, 9 seconds this time, I changed codec's to reduce the size of the movie so it uploads quicker, etc. so lets see how it turns out.

revamped

Okay i stayed late around uni and made a 2nd render, my cousin andrew
Pointed out that i forgot the lean from the breaking, its as if the car
has no weight to it. so i put in the lean and compared to the previous
video this is much more beleivable. i jsut want to change the timing of
the lights.

Friggin technical difficulties.

Man, i hate how youtube cuts off the very end of the video wtf! the lights go off and everything and they cant even show it i want to slap youtube into the next county, lakjdad 8weaj Cunts.
Okay, so the video refuses to upload so i linked it instead.

lets.. try.. this

Okay continuing on

Ok, modeling on the outside has pretty much stopped. Im now begining to animate out what is going to happen. Using camera shots to reduce amount of animation. ill have a video up soon Hopefully, just gotta figure out how im going to do that. Hmm ill post more once i figure something out

Visit to denis severs house

ugh, denis severs house was a bit strange. we werent allowed to take photo's and drawing wasnt exactly on my to do list while in there. i found liverpool street more interesting architecutally than the house. However the learning outcomes meant for this visit were fairly obvious.

Denis severs house wasn't just about looking at an old style of living, it was about how the house was set up. as a display of mood, sounds, and presence. the lighting, what little lighting there was. set the mood for the house. lighting in animaton and in 3D work is incredibly important. the lighting of the house seemed dark and mysterious in some areas, almost ominous. being able to take in the mood of each room simply by noticing the lighting, is something we should try to aim for as animators.

presence, without presence.

the use of presence without presence, sounds a bit strange i suppose. but in this case it makes sense. the sound installation in the room, while a bit hard to notice with the chitter chatter of my peers, it is there to give you a sense of life and activity from that time. as if people are around you and things are happening in and out of the house.

In animation practicality often takes presedence over quality And quantity. create and animate a thousand people, Or create and model two people and make it seem like theres a thousand people around? sound can play a huge part in changing the surroundings of a scene. change the camera to show one guy, and have the sound of hundreds of people chattering. without seeing those peopple we can create a world where they seem to obviously be there.

Outside the House

Liverpool street, i had never been there at least not that i remember till i had to go to the House
the trip to the house was...... well we all got lost. but the buildings outside were very interesting. it felt like i was in London, but not the london i knew a London 10 or 20 years ahead of the london i am used to. taller buildings, cleaner buildings, newer cooler cars. it was definatly inspirational.
